Collaboration (C#4) Group Work and Team Work are synonyms for Collaboration Collaboration is a process whereby two or more people work together (in person and/or electronically over distance) synergistically to complete a task of high quality and on time. All parties in this collaboration are respected, important, useful, and feel positive at the end of the process. Collaboration produces results that could not usually be done through individual work. Collaboration requires both task completion and people skills. Collaboration requires that individuals come to the group work prepared, work constructively, and take responsibility for the group’s work. Collaboration to solve 21st Century problems is essential. Collaboration in the 21st Century will become more and more electronically interactive and engage individuals from distances. A new set of protocols and behaviors must be identified, practiced and used in the authentic problem solving we do in PSTs. The trick is to use collaboration as an authentic process in 21st Century problem solving also assure that individuals are not “hitchhiking” on the work of others. Individual responsibility must also be a priority.
